Sarah Carter moves from NYC to Boston to start a new life. She left a terrible relationship and is ready to begin anew. She moves into a beautiful brownstone in Boston and immediately strange things start to happen.
Her landlord, Mason Brown, is a recluse and is severely scarred and deformed.
Okay - so without giving too much away - it's difficult to talk about this book.
But generally....
The beginning is awesome. Sarah is great. She is beautiful, smart, tenacious, kind and big hearted.
Mason is broken. Both physically and mentally. But he is super kind. He has an immediate connection with Sarah, and her big heart heals his own. He begins to trust her and open up to her as well.
Your heart bleeds for Mason. He obviously has suffered some major tragedy. But he also obviously is a kind person who has sequestered himself to keep from bothering other people.
So now I am engrossed in the book.
This book is not about chemistry, sex etc. I don't think they even hold hands in this book.
But it is still interesting.
....then we get to the latter part of the book.
Mason goes into GREAT detail talking about his situation.
It's got great detail. But I like to read most of my books through conversations/dialogue. To read someone describing their past got a bit tedious for me. Again, it was interesting, but tedious. I need more dialogue, conversations...
Also, I was expecting some more exciting things to happen. It seemed like the beginning of the book was building up to more interesting things. But everything seemed to get resolved very quickly and easily. A bit too easily and quickly.
I couldn't believe the book ended so quickly.
When the two get together at the end - I expected MORE - write about their romance, friendship, love, anything.
Nada. Just Poof! They are a couple now.
:-(
Felt a bit cheated.
The beginning was 4 star -worthy, the latter half, 2 stars...

Cursed Lynn Ricci 9781481276030 Books Reviews
The eagerly anticipated 3rd installment in the published works of Lynn is a captivating and engrossing tale that will have you clamoring for what comes next. While the core of Lynn's 3 stories revolves around the evolution and complexity of relationships, the muses she uses to convey her stories give us a small glimpse into her thrilling imagination and creative style that does not get locked into any one particular genre. While the theme's of love and acceptance are predominant in all three stories, the way in which those themes are weaved within the stories are so completely different it allows each one stand on its own. I recommend reading all 3 - Daydreams, The Dating Intervention and Cursed - in that sequence so you will be able to witness the growth of a writer that will make you hope that there are many more works coming out of the imagination of Lynn.
I enjoyed this second novel from Lynn Ricci. Ms. Ricci has a flair for detail and imagination...giving hauntingly good foreshadowing too. Sarah, the main character, moves to a brownstone in Boston, landlorded by a disfigured man. Sarah makes new friends, one of whom seems to show up wherever Sarah is. Then, the strangeness starts happening, including attempting to get to know the story of why her recluse landlord is disfigured. The landlord, Mason, becomes a central part of the story mid-way through the book, and when he "takes over" the story-telling - it is magical - very descriptive and visual. Like another reviewer, I feel the story ended too soon or with less of an ah-ha moment than I had hoped...but I wonder if it is because there might be a part 2? Seems like it.... I hope so!
Disclosure I know the author, so may be biased. But I'll try not to be ;-)
This is just pure fun. A combination of old Boston history, brownstone charm, and a mystical mystery that provides the plot, tension, & interesting characters. I live in the area the story takes place, so I especially enjoyed the narrative of the place.
It was definitely an evening destination page turner for me. I have no hesitation to recommend it to those who enjoy the genre.
Konos, Lynn.
Sarah has moved to Boston after a romance gone bad. She has gotten a good job offer and found an apartment in a lovely old brownstone. Her new landlord is apparently disfigured and very reclusive but he is very gentlemanly and helpful.
Sarah settles in at the office with other staff and occasionally joins some of the ladies for lunch. One morning getting bagels an attractive woman, Zoe, befriends her and becomes quite chummy. Zoe encourages Sarah to go out but Zoe is the one who attracts all the men wherever she goes and she isn’t particularly kind to Sarah’s other friends.
Strange things begin to occur at her apartment and Sarah starts to have more contact with her landlord, seeing Mason as a man beyond his disfigurements. As black cats hiss at windows and other spooky things happen Mason finally discloses his story and his suspicions to Sarah. It is a remarkable tale of witchcraft, jealousy and curses.
The story is interesting and engaging although a bit different. There is quite a bit of ‘telling’ instead of showing as the past history unfolds as Mason shares it with Sarah. It works okay as it is like a storyteller in front of a campfire or in a dark room and you want to know what happened! I liked Sarah as a down to earth and kind heroine. The villain is a fabulously wicked character - and you really do suspect it fairly early. It is interesting that the story has a bit of fairy tale leanings such as The Beauty and The Beast and Sleeping Beauty.
The story reads easily and quickly and there is excitement as the secrets are revealed and danger must be met. If you enjoy Gothic romance with a hint of fairy tale curses you should enjoy this story.
I received the eBook for an honest review to post as part of Bewitching Blog Tour.
