As a fellow Brit living in nyc for 9 yrs i have to agree with all the passion and details Rob has put into this book, its funny, easy to read , exciting and his observational humor of day to day life in this crazy city is so true to point , i really couldnt put this book down and read it while on the subways or in my tiny over priced cubby hole apartment . I have read and collect so many books on New York but hands down this is my ultimate favorite !!!6 out of 5 if i could honestly rate it !!

Rob Silverman's New York, New York is a must read for all long time New Yorkers as well as anyone thinking of moving to NYC. It provides insiders' views of all the ins and outs of Manhattan life, and unique outside observers' insights as well. It is both informative and highly entertaining. The wide range of topics include getting to the city from the airport, buying/renting an apartment, the best ways to finding a taxi, get a dinner reservation, dating, childrearing. and all that goes along with that in NYC. It is exceptionally well written and chock full of witty anecdotes and stories. I was literally laughing out loud!!!

This book is incredibly useful for anyone thinking of living in New York, or wondering what it might be like as an armchair traveler. And, as a huge bonus, it's hilarious! Silverman's tales of dining out in New York and trying to get his child to a birthday party across town on a parade day are so funny you'll be sharing them with your friends. The book is a great mixture of practical information ( should you buy...or should you rent; what does a super do; how to tackle tipping for the holidays; the horrors of the private school admissions process; where's the best place to find a cab?) and personal vignettes that make the book a great read and not just a reference book. New Yorkers will get a kick out of reading this author's take on living in their city and see in it their own struggles and joys. Out-of-towners will gain great insight into what makes New Yorkers tick. I highly recommend this book!
